The legend of Orval:  Countess Mathilda from Italy, a widow, was on holiday in the Ardenne Mountains. One day her wedding ring fell off her finger and into a natural spring. She prayed to the Virgin Mary and at once a trout rose to the surface with the precious ring in its mouth. Mathilda exclaimed : 'Truly this place is a Val d'Or'!" In gratitude, she decided to establish a monastery on the site.  Love can move mountains.

Lost Abbey / Port Beer Dinner   Tuesday, February 23, 2010     7PM     tbd

Tomme Arthur is coming to town in February.  His beers are amazing.  You do not want to miss this dinner. Tomme & I are working on the beer selection.  We're thinking Red Poppy, Duck Duck Gueuze and a few other gems.  Ticket price hasn't been set, but figure on paying around $65-$75.  We're selling them without even having the final price, but I promise it will not exceed $75.

TICKETS GO ON SALE: Monday, February 1st @ 11:30AM.  Priority will be given to those that show up in person.  We expect all tickets to be sold within the hour, maybe sooner. Last year's dinner sold out in just over 10 minutes.   As an added incentive to take the day off from work, we'll be tapping five kegs from Hopfenstark (a great Canadian brewery).  All five start pouring at 11:30AM at the front bar.  I only have one keg of each, so don't delay!

Monk's Mad Monday - Russian River   Monday, March 01, 2010     11:30AM     cash bar
